The Strip

by Harry

Submitted by Devyn

Listen closely
Children’s voices
crying out
against the wind

Caught between
two holy forces
Praying that
their God will win

Countless bodies
Nameless faces
On battlegrounds
and common places

Once deemed safe
But never more
to take a test
in times of war

Future’s a bargain
Thinks a Sargent
As he tells his men
to strike

Painted crosses
Don’t mean nothing
When a man thinks
he is right

Looking up at
smoke filled clouds
Caused by ancient
stakes and shrouds

From tales of love
come mounds of hate
Bringing forth
this present state

Listen closely
Bells are ringing
Telling you
you’re time is near

Raising louder
are children’s voices
Crying out
to stop their fear
