Knowing The Unknown

by Venkat

strange as it may seem
by truth, eternally porous
sparks of virtue gleam
soft, adapted as clay does

true strength of mind
not from perfect clarity
nor from an end defined
or knowledge in entirety

true power of listening
lies not in conclusions
nor felt real by agreeing
or by answered questions

true nature of wisdom
not from ideas perfect
nor by firm, fixed dictum
or freedom from defect

strength, on sand dwells
waves of inquiry repeated
to expect different shells
each time washed, treated

listening, an eagle’s flight
higher in air, more to see
a new fish in distant sight
by moving on, in discovery

wisdom, as clouds hollow
beautiful from a long distance
shaped in reality, hard to follow
open, through air of turbulence
