Battling through the storm

by Michelle Sherlock

photo of dark skies with sunlight breaking through over green field with a distant housing estate

Nerves clang

Pulling tight

Scrunching

Hurting

Moaning

Anxiety spirals

Steel bands encircle

Pressing in

Shoulders rise

Drawing closer

Neck aches

Pain spikes

Travels further

Stomach churning

Spirit yearning

To run away

Instead of rising

To face the day

Shaking free

Declaring aloud

“Peace be still

You’re not alone”
