Innocence Lost

by graypoet

innocence

Oh at times to have innocence back
To see the world as a small child
Days without care, an easy laugh
Stealing a cookie was getting wild.

No worry of bills or relationships
Where loss of a friend wasn’t forever
To believe parents kissing a shock
No thought to adults under a cover.

With all the distractions in life
Are we causing our children to age
Where dating is allowed so young
And most discussions end in rage.

I know we can’t go back to the past
We can try to teach morals again
Leave our little ones some innocence
Teach them how it was “way back when”.
