Black Garbage Bags

Black Garbage Bags

He’d quit one more job, Didn’t like it, he said
She believed his lies for years on end
He called her worthless for the last time
She gathered her things, in black garbage bags

After years of abuse, she wanted more
Put the kids in the car, And didn’t look back
Trash or treasure?
Keep it – or throw it away?
In black garbage bags

She got a room at the shelter, for the next 30 days
He took all her things and threw them away
In black garbage bags

After years of abuse, she wanted more
Put the kids in the car, And didn’t look back
Trash or treasure?
Keep it – or throw it away?
In black garbage bags

The life she had treasured, in black garbage bags
He threw it away, in black garbage bags

Trash or treasure?
Keep it – or throw it away?
Trash or treasure?
Keep it – or throw it away?
In black garbage bags
