Suicide

by SHIRLEY MAYA TAN

Today I saw

A man jumped

Four storeys down

To his death

He died on impact

His head cracked

Blood splattered

On the cold hard floor

Life too painful to bear

Death his only escape

Spectators watched

Some photographed

To post on Facebook

Eager to Tweet and share

Thoughtless, heartless

Human life reduced to sport

His mother cried

Her son had died

Right before her eyes.

  2. Absolutely tragic. It’s so hard to read about, but its equally sad when people truly struggle with this darkness of suicide. My heart hurts for them.

  5. Thank you all for your kind comment and sharing your thoughts. Most of all, your empathy. The young man was suffering from schizophrenia. May his soul rest in peace.
