The Lighthouse Shines On

by Michelle Sherlock

Photo of a white lighthouse with a red turret

The lighthouse stands tall and proud
Shining its warning
Out over the sea
Its’ light penetrates deeply
Into the darkness
As it revolves
Like a childhood game of ‘Peek-a-boo
Now you see it, now you don’t’

Without that warning light
Many an unwary ship
Could be lost at sea
Complete with passengers and crew
Broken up against the taunting rocks
So even when the circles seem narrow
And the signal goes unheeded
This lighthouse will shine on
