Elegant Green

by Jem Croucher

Elegant green whisper away
Soft the turning sea
Shingle drift, the undertow
Pulls back to stiffening breeze
Ebb once more again my friend
Egged on by seagulls’ call
From Worthing in the sun glare
Over to Brighton’s massive sprawl
Hasten now the ocean’s roar
Tumble down the waves
Crescendo to that sweetest song
On this midsummer’s day
So blue the sky, so sweet the taste
The salt upon my breath
Embraced again, beholden to
The ocean’s soft caress.
