Between Mountain and Sea

by Venkat

As we grow in age
From birth to the end
Through life’s cage
A truth we cannot bend

Born pure as birds, to fly
No divisions in tender mind
By death, towards the sky
No dualities again to find

Life, a melody of joy
At the two ends of it
Yet a middle of annoy
A plaintive song, unfit

As we develop by human error
Learn to keenly measure
By rules of obscure grammar
We divide in pain, pleasure

Trapped in knots of language
Agony of laws unwritten, unsaid
A vision lost in complex verbiage
A misunderstood love, we dread

As wisdom outgrows pretensions
Love crosses a hidden border
Embracing, unfelt sensations
Of oneness, a divine tall order

Life, a river of blood and pain
In a struggle of trying to be
Majestic at the ends, no stain
As between mountain and sea

  1. I especially like this stanza:

    Trapped in knots of language
    Agony of laws unwritten, unsaid
A vision lost in complex verbiage
    A misunderstood love, we dread
