I hear voices

in the long tunnel

of this swollen mind

speaking urgent words

echoes of the forgotten

An anagram as it were

of the ancient things

once known now

all disorder

I hear voices

as under water

one hears the chatter

of little children playing

poolside on a mown lawn

Games whose strategies

made perfect sense

in childhood now

all confusion

I hear voices

singing in a key

beyond sharps & flats

dissonant yet harmonic

Tuning forks struck softly

on time’s steely anvil

yet not at all in time

only in mind now

all consuming
