Prayer

Words

that once flowed

water from the spring

catch now in my throat

dry wind-swept sand

piled awkwardly

in dunesĀ

Where

there once grew

a well-watered garden

gulls now peck at shells

feed on the salted kelp

washed randomly

to shore

Wind!

Sing once again!

Restless Song of Life!

Stir this glass hard heart

till by your feral breath

it chimes afresh

with joy
