Starlings

by merlinspielen

starlings shimmer across blue sky
warbling shifting dancing swarm
distracting you from me

just as i was speaking of your beauty
how your eyes entice me
into awestruck stammering

i have no hope of competing
with ten thousand dancers
when me plumage is old

your smile as you stand watching
would launch ten thousand ships
and break my heart

the birds wheel tighter closer
seeking night time roosts
settling in black waves

freeing you back to here and now
i wonder did you even notice
we were ever talking?

  1. A poet’s eye, a poet’s tongue, a poet’s heart, a poet’s gift . . .
