The Seasonal Trend

by Kerrie Ann Salsac

Christmas Poem: Challenge

sonnet 7

It’s vintage, it’s tacky, it’s all the rage.

Bright garish colours screaming from your chest,

a trend for masses of folk to engage,

in all sincerity or merely jest.

When your grandma was knitting, who’d have guessed?

A fashion disaster, now so adored

that everyone’s absolutely obsessed,

and buying as many as they can afford!

Love for the festive jumper trend has soared,

and yet I still don’t own a single one.

Maybe this Christmas I’ll get my reward,

then I’ll be able to join in the fun.

It’s vintage, it’s tacky, it’s just begun.

It’s a trend that none of us can outrun.

The Twelve Sonnets of Christmas

Day # 7

Irish Sonnet

Obviously influenced by the English sonnet there ia also still a Celtic influece in making a link from stanza to stanza.. It still follows the three quaterns and a couplet pattern, but each stanza is linked to the next giving a rhyme pattern of;

a. b. a. b. . b. c. b. c. . c. d. c. d. .d.d.

You can find the other Sonnets of Christmas here on Poet’s Corner by my archive or you can visit my blog.

  1. Funny! I’ve heard of ugly Christmas sweater contests (and own at least one worthy entry 🙂

  2. The old fashioned xmas jumper is back 🙂

  3. One of you who liked this was my 200th like on Poets Corner 😀 How exciting is that! (for me anyway haha)
