Tis The Season

by graypoet

The tree was decorated with care
Right next to a favorite easy chair
All the presents with ribbon and bow
Keeping inside, the kids didn’t know.

There were blinking lights on the house
It was quiet as the proverbial mouse
So off for a drive through the snow
To visit with more family they go.

There are always those that can’t feel
They’ve no conscious when they steal
So they jimmy the locked door in back
And cram anything they find into a sack.

Such is the way that too many do today
Making us madder than most will say
Yet a special few will do what they can
To restore our faith in the heart of man.

Word got around of the deed that was done
Caring hearts seemed to come together as one
The children wouldn’t suffer from this crime
They’ll still have presents at Christmas time.

Maybe this moment the words only rhyme
But this happens to often, time after time
We can only hope that we remember the reason
For the hope we still have, this holiday season.

  1. A very touching poem. I have not known anyone to be a victim of this personally, but I do know it happens. 😦
