Advent II: The Reflection

by Harry

Posted for Peter Notehelfer

Oh
for the grace
to leave the tilted
candle crooked on the roof
of the rustic Nativity stable
To leave the leaf
on the spotless
floor

But no!
Mine it is ever
to correct the flaws
no one else can even see
or if they do, won’t notice
out of lazy courtesy
It is ever mine
to mend

Not
mind you
out of real care
but for the love of order
For in order lies control
And for control
one stoops
low

Here
we can see
our hard reflection
in the graceful celebration
of warmly mingled friends
Eyes on the absent
Hands on the
flaws
