Autumnal Alphabet

by Wendy L. Macdonald

Poetry challenge: ABC Poem.

Autumnal Alphabet

Autumnal poetry

Birds flying south

Candlelight dinners

Dropped leaves about

Evergreens still dressed

Flowers asleep

Gardens at rest

Harvest complete

Intermittent snow

Jingling wind chimes

Keep tune as birds go

Leaving for a time

Mornings slow to waken

Night early to bed

Our bodies in woolen wear

Piles of blankets on each bed

Quilts over laps

Reading by the fire

Sipping something hot

Tales of love and desire

Umbrella of gray skies

Veiled crocus under snow

Winter melts to end

Xylophone of birdsong grow

Yesterday’s autumn long gone

Zippered coats open as spring sings its song.
