The Power of Words

by Apurva

What are words,

but bits of ink,

splattered on sheets of paper,

or clouds of smoke on a frosty morning,

from your mouth to a worthy listener!

What are words,

but decorative lines,

that make sense to you and me,

that millions others cannot decipher,

still manage effortlessly,

& yet,

they mean so much more,

when understood, clearly,

capable of breaking happy hearts

or patching them up,

in a jiffy!

The pen is mightier than the sword they say,

it’s the words that make it to be,

Inflicting wounds worse than a sword,

that stay raw permanently.

& yet,

people toss them around,

sometimes so carelessly,

don’t they realise the power they exude,

even if mumbling,

incoherently?

One may recover from a physical wound,

but the scars from words never heal,

so think twice before you blurt them out,

saving others,

untold misery!

W- Weapons of mass destruction

O- Open to ambiguous interpretation

R- Reveal much about the person

D- Destroy fragile relations

S- So choose them with care; with consideration
