Monday
“What did you do at school dear?”
Said the Mother,
Her mind on the road.
“In science we did an experiment, Mum
We turned a prince into a toad!”
“Oh really? That’s lovely, how nice dear.”
Said the Mother,
Mind still on the road.
Tuesday
“What did you do at school dear?”
Said the Mother,
Checking her phone.
“In history we went back in time, Mum
And a witch turned my friend into stone.”
“Oh really? That’s lovely, how nice dear.”
Said the Mother,
Still on checking her phone.
Wednesday
“What did you do at school dear?”
Said the Mother,
As she waved to a friend.
“In PE we swam the whole channel, Mum
I thought it would never end!”
“Oh really? That’s lovely, how nice dear.”
Said the Mother,
Waving hard at her friend.
Thursday
“What did you do at school dear?”
Said the Mother,
Tying her laces,
“In politics we fought in a war, Mum
I got shot in fifteen different places.”
“Oh really? That’s lovely, how nice dear.”
Said the Mother,
Still tying her laces.
Friday
“What did you do at school dear?”
Said the Mother,
Cleaning a pot.
“In cooking we made puppy pie, Mum
We mixed tails, entrails and snot”
“Oh really? That’s lovely, how nice dear.”
Said the Mother,
And then…
“You did WHAT???!!!”
