atonement – poem

by billgncs

poetry challenge: Easter bunny.

I guess I laid an egg
by what I’ve done
This sweet chocolate Easter bunny
hollow atonement proffered excuses

Empty like the Easter eggs as children
we poked, blew clear
painted with uncertain hand
fragile as morning’s innocence.

I can only ask that you
peering beyond the superficial
understand the season
forgive what cannot be unbroken

  1. i remember painting eggs for Easter.

    • I too remember that fondly. Some people make them quite lovely. The empty egg painted nicely and the hollow chocolate rabbit make nice metaphors for the human condition at Easter.

  2. sad that the greatest gift, free gift, by the ONLY Begotten Son Jesus Christ with such levity and, like Christmas so commercialized.
