All is still and all is white

Calm reigns in this morning light

The weather turned and is so cold

I’m tired too if truth be told.

A sudden flurry of the thickest snow

I thought I’d rest as not far to go

I sheltered here in this lonely tree

Hidden away so you would not see.

I heard you coming on the path

I heard your footsteps and your laugh

I understand your quiet surprise

I’m usually unseen and mostly wise.

I see the world awakens now

Concern now passes on my brow

I’ll bid you good morning and how do you do

For the night is my time to wit and to woo.
