Writing a poem.

by Harry

I sit here trying to write

A poem to please the readers

Tapping keys to make a line

And then deleting most of it

The words are not coming

They don’t seem to fit

Tapping, tapping only in hope

That i’ll get a sign of wisdom

Maybe a cup of tea will help

Or a break to watch the football

The tapping is over

Its now complete

At last i can relax

So i’ll post it and see

What all the readers think

Waiting their judgement

Reading their comments

Be they good or bad

  1. I love this Harry! And there is certainly no judgement.

And what is more I know exactly what you mean!

  2. I heard a saying once that inspired me led to write the poem below to help remind myself of the wisdom in the message. I don’t recall the wording of the original saying now or who said it because I just wrote the poem a minute ago and had read the saying quite awhile ago.) I think the last 3 lines of my poem are exactly as the person who coined the saying said them (but they weren’t on three lines). I’d like to give credit to the person who wrote the saying, so if any of you know who it was, please let me know.

    What You Need To Say

    Never try to write what
You think people want to hear
Don’t try to please your readers
That’s not the way, my dear

If you want to make a difference
Write what you need to say
    Because that’s the only thing
    You’ve got to offer anyway

    • Thanks for your comment Russ, it just came to me sitting at the pc one night.
I’m not a poet, i just like poetry and humour poetry is my favorite, you should read some of mine there :)
But you have given sound advice.

  3. our own judgements are almost always harsher than our readers…but on that note I think you express well the angst almost every writer feels putting something out there and in part we feel like we ourselves and not just our writng ajudged…kudos

  4. Quite general inner heart feelings, I think so.

Thank you for visiting, please enjoy the poetry.
