The First

by russtowne

She whispered, “I like you”
That’s all the prompting I’d need
As we stood in the shade
Of a towering tree

We were both new at this
And acted kind of shy
When we leaned toward each other
We quickly closed our eyes

Because on that bright sunny day
When we shared our first kiss
She was only five years old
And I was only six.

  2. Ah childhood sweethearts, something of a rarity these days!

    • Thank you for your comment. We were curious what it would feel like to kiss, so we worked up the courage and did. It was scary, exciting, and thrilling, but not something we ever did with each other again. In fact, it was quite a number of years before I had my second kiss. The first one was a lot more memorable. I just realized that I don’t remember anything about my second kiss (with a different girl). I still wonder sometimes if the first girl ever remembers our kiss half a century ago.

  3. LOL! In our case it was curiosity and a sense of adventure rather passion that led to the kiss, but the memory remains, and each time I think of that moment a smile comes to my face when I think of how innocent but adventurous we were.
